CULTURA VIVA
This project can be conceived as a consistent consequence of decades of experience and activities in our stilhaus gallery in Germany.
During these years we´ve become passionate experts in the development and implementation of exhibition and presentation concepts, as well as in the professional marketing of art, creative crafts and design.
Our qualification in terms of living culture runs as a constant guide through our work and now finds a starting point in the creation of an intercultural project for creativity and artistic skills alongsideour gallery at Gut Panker in Malhada do São/Portugal.
Cultura Viva renders a concept of a border crossing artists in residence concept, which is financially self-sustaining through our understanding of authentic tourism.

CULTURA VIVA AT MALHADA DO SAO
The intercultural project CULTURA VIVA is inextricably linked to our infrastructure on MALHADA DO SAO near Tavira Since the project development and founding of the supporting registered association Cultura Viva e.V., the creation of this infrastructure in Portugal has been our top priority starting in November 2021. During a good two years the culture-related contentual work on the project neede to come to a halt. This brief retrospect summarizes our results up to the turn of the year 2023/24. With our implemented BLOG, we also trace this path visually.
On November 4th, 2021 the purchase contract for the first phase of the intended acquisition of buildings and land was signed. Later On December 6th, the contract for the purchase of the second section, the land necessary for the project with 2 ruins, has additionally been signed. During our first intensive period of work in Portugal, we finalized a number of fundamental decisions about how the existing two houses should suppose to look and be used after the renovation and a following conversion phase.
An initially “just cosmetic” overhaul of the rather rock-solid building structure ultimately gave way to a complete overhaul of the existing houses After a (re)construction period and redesign in a modern Mediterranean style of almost a year and a half, the first holiday guests were finally able to rent the newly created Portuguese country houses CASA LUZ and CASA COLINAS from March 2023 (which can be booked directly at www.malhadadosao.pt ).
With the final work on an outdoor kitchen with a BBQ station as a communicative meeting point for our guests and future artists from the association’s Artist in Residence projects, the following aim is to create various areas for retreat and relaxation in our compound. In addition, free areas will be created on the premises to provide an open space for artistic work outdoors
The conversion and expansion plans for two additional studios in the existing ruins are currently being drawn up, applied for and can hopefully be implemented in 2024!

INTERCULTURAL PROJECT
Our conception of exchanging Portugal´s characteristic art, culture and crafts with other European countries in the rural hinterland of the Eastern Algarve is already receiving a positive response from more and more people. In order to make the idea of exchange visible and tangible, Malhada is contributing to the necessary refinancing with its holiday home rentals. The wonderful moments and tangible values that make this place so utterly ideal can be found in the perception of the surrounding nature and the authenticity of the environment – whether for artists or guests.
Resulting from our long-standing passion for gallery work , we have already expanded and deepened our network of contacts with the Portuguese population. Our most particular highlights are the first contacts with the local art and cultural scene. An excellently networked cultural mediator, who was already co-responsible for the EXPO in Lisbon and the Portuguese contribution to the EXPO 2000 in Hanover, provides us initial contacts to an exhibition area of an artists’ initiative with its own workshop space for graphic design. Additionally the former premiere cinema in Tavira, which has been converted into a culture and events center, will soon be reopened and will certainly give the town and the region further cultural impulses.
